This is a child-friendly adaptation of the UNESCO report: “Global education monitoring report, 2023: technology in education: a tool on whose terms?

What is UNESCO?

UNESCO is a group of special people in the United Nations who want to make the world peaceful and happy. They help everyone, including kids and grown-ups, learn new things, make amazing art, find out cool stuff about science, and know about different cultures.

They’re like super hero friends of Education, art, science, and culture, all teaming up to make our planet better and more fun!

So, 14% of the countries would be 27 countries out of 195.

The report also talked about how some kids have a hard time getting technology. Imagine that around the world, only 4 out of 10 primary schools have internet access!

And in some places in Africa, like sub-Saharan Africa, places far away from cities, where not many people live,

7 out of 10 of them don’t have
electricity. So, technology can’t
be used everywhere just yet.

Audrey Azoulay, the Director of General Unesco, said something really important during the launch.

There’s something else to think about too. Using screens too much can make our health and focus a little unhappy. So, it’s like a puzzle – we need to figure out how to use technology and also take breaks from it to stay healthy and focused.

But, technology also does some good things for education! It helps kids who might have a hard time going to school or finding teachers. Some special devices, called assistive technology, help kids with disabilities to learn better and be a part of our classrooms.

Technology should be used in the right way: When we use technology in school, it should help us learn better. The things we learn with technology should match what we need to know, and teachers should be trained to use technology in a helpful way.

Technology should not leave anyone behind: all students should be able to use technology easily, no matter who they are, where they come from, or what challenges they might have.

Checking if Technology Really Helps: Before using new technology in schools, we should make sure it really works and helps us learn. We should also be open about how much it costs and if it’s worth it.

Thinking about using Technology for a long time: Technology is like a clever tool we should use carefully, not just quickly. It can help us not only in school but also in other things we do. And we should use it in a way that’s good for the environment too.
