kenya's finance bill
“What’s a Finance Bill?”
“It’s a special law that decides how the government manages money and taxes,”
“Wow, that sounds important! How
does it become a law?”
“Then what happens?”
“Next, the Treasury takes those ideas to the Cabinet, where the big decision-makers talk about them,” “If everyone agrees, they write it down into a draft Finance Bill.”
“Like a rough draft in school?”
“What’s Parliament?”
“Does the President help too?”
“Yes! When everyone agrees, they
send it to the President,”
“If the President likes it, he signs it,
and it becomes a real law!”
“Oh, Ade, did you hear about the protests by young people like us about the Finance Bill 2024?”
“Why are they protesting?”
“Some parts of the bill might make things more expensive for families. Like diapers could cost more because of a new tax called eco levy. But they removed that idea because it could be too expensive for parents.”
“That’s not fair.”
