Breaking News: High Court of Kenya rejects petition seeking to legalize FGM

The High Court of Kenya has rejected a petition by Dr. Tatu Kamau challenging the Constitutionality of the Anti FGM Act 2011.

In a virtual ruling by a 3 Judge bench consisting of Lady justice Lydia Achode, Justice Kanyi Kimondo and Lady justice Margeret Muigai at the Milimani Courts in Nairobi on Wednesday afternoon, the judges were not persuaded that a woman can choose to undergo an harmful practice adding that “the petition devoid of merit & is hereby dismissed”.

The petitioner Dr. Tatu Kamau was seeking the Court to allow women above the age of 18 to voluntarily undergo FGM.
