We are a digital media company that is leveraging on technology to improve the lives of children by making them visible. Our vision is a world where children are seen as players and not as spectators.

We do this by:

 

1.) Curating, Creating and Circulating content on children in different ways audio, video, written and graphics. We also train journalist on ethical reporting of children stories, taking into considerations Best Interest of the Child and safeguarding.

2.) Child participation, we train children to speak for themselves, we do this through 5 days in-person training followed by a 3 months mentorship program, where children learn how to write, make videos, interview and stay safe online. We also give them a platform where they can publish their content.

3.) Data We believe there is a huge gap between data and actions as a result of data to improve children’s lives, hence we have started working with data science platforms to analyse, visualise and create models to improve the lives of children using data available.

TRAIN

We train children to speak for themselve using media as a tool. The five days training covers digital storytelling, advocacy and online child safety

MENTORSHIP

The training is followed by a 3 months mentorship where the children are paired with a experienced journalist who helps in honing their skills.

PLATFORM

During the mentorship children are provided a platform where they are able publish their stories and engage decision makers

Data is the new gold, unfortunately the children sector is not utilizing the huge amount of data on children available.

Mtoto News works with child focused agencies and government agencies to clean, understand and visualise the data.

In addition Mtoto News has partnered with Data Science platforms to develop Artificial Intelligence models using the data.

We believe that children should be at center of solving their own problems, hence we endeavor to introduce children to data science and AI at a young age.

Mtoto News has grown to be an authority in using digital media to campaign for children. Our campaigns are designed with the child at the center while looking at the goals of the campaign. We support organizations in designing, developing and executing campaign

 

To execute the plan we  use the 5Cs as follows:

  • Culture: Explores People’s lives, attitudes, beliefs, behavior in regards to the campaign we shall utilize to make the campaign relevant to the target groups.
  • Category: What is happening in the category. This will help know which other campaigns we can leverage on to ensure that messages is heard.
  • Company: What is the organization DNA? What are the goals? Why does it exist? What will make the target audience to pay attention to the communication? How is the project relevant to the target group’s life cycle and vice versa
  • Consumer: Attitudes, beliefs, values – It looks at insights from the audience group and how the project provides solutions to these insights.

Thereafter we build a community of child focused journalist for further capacity building, cross pollination and changing of information on children.
